Hi Guys, Bit of advice really. Just had a massive infestation of flukes ( my fish not me ) both skin and gill types. First tried ALPARAX NO EFFECT, PP very little affect. whilst waiting between different treatments and water changes have lost several fish. Finally used LERNEX GOOD RESULT ( at a cost of £200 for two treatments 7000 galls ) My question is has anyone used LERNEX AND SALT TOGETHER.
Another thing is my pond is mostly covered roof and sides ,not put any new fish in for a couple of years . My theory is the fluke out break can only be caused by slugs and snails dropping in the pond as I have been told by several dealers they carry flukes. I thought the salt content would (0.3% ) keep them out. but does it mix well with lernex or not.
Any thoughts anyone.
Cheers
Graham

Hi Graham,

I think that we never totally eradicate fluke, but you may be right and we get re infected from outside sources.

This may link be useful to you.

Flukes are a constant battle in our pond.

I have found them alive on scrapes taken from the pond walls and shower. We use various treatments which basically just give them some relief for a while. I do multiple treatments 3 or 4 doses 5-7days apart.

Salt doesn’t bother flukes.
Pp only strips the mucous and doesn’t kill them.
CT good for stripping mucous and helps any raised scales caused by flashing.

Not sure about lernex and salt. I’d say follow the instructions.

Hi Laura, having tried fluke solve plus twice to very little effect and after waiting between different treatments and huge water changes I finally went for LERNEX and salt at 0.3% , my theory being salt strips the mucus so the LERNEX can get at the little shits. Have lost a lot of fish until I did this. Looking a lot better now no losses since this . Cant find any flukes now (fingers and fins crossed ) Got to decide now if to keep the salt content up or not .Never used salt in my pond before. I have to say I think LERNEX is the treatment to go for , cost me a fortune to treat 7000 galls twice.
No ref to salt in LERNEX instructions and makers impossible to contact, so I just went for it (losing fish anyway and why is it always the best ones first )
Regards
Graham

Glad you seem to have got on top of it.
Only thing with salt is it stops you using a few treatments

If you are wanting to strip mucous off then CT is pretty good and will help reduce the bacteria content in the pond which can contribute to infections. I tend to do a 3-4 day course then treat
