These scales have gone black on my kohaku you can just make them out on her back
on short clip just appeared she’s feeding and swimming about ok water perameters ok ph 7.6 kh 119 ppm nitrite 0 so is ammonia


4000 gallons queni koi drum and jbr plastics bio chamber drum fed from bottom drain 3 inch gravity skimmer also into drum 55 watt submersible uv 240 litres air and 12 fishI

Hi Dave,
Not a great pic but don't think its a health issue.

Looks like shimmies ,just black pigment developing where you do not want it.

Usually when you get one more will appear later ,your kohaku is turning sanke sadly will be a very low grade sanke.

Some people try to remove them but they always grow back.

Although partially obscured by net i would say it looks more like late developing sumi than a shimmie.

It just appeared over night I’ve had costia bad finally touch wood I’ve got rid of it was an expensive murata kohaku had her a few years I have a smaller kohaku from queni koi that has gone the same my water tests are as normal not really hard water only thing that I had recently is a ammonia spike due to my drum being on by pass for a 6 weeks while I got a new sensor that’s also now sorted so ul just wait and see what happens with her she was a nice kohaku
