Here is a touchy subject for most Koi Dealers.

What are your thoughts on the word Tategoi, been used far too loosely/too often?

Japanese breeders view.

Tategoi are koi with great potential.

This definition is not a literal translation of Japanese.

You also will not find this word in a Japanese dictionary.

It is a term used only among “koi people” to refer to koi “that will improve in the future”.

Breeders review and select koi many times before getting to their tategoi.

I have seen some poor koi in my opinion, advertised as Tategoi

I am aware of that, I just think it’s used too frequently.
