EASY WAY TO ENSURE YOU ARE NOT OVER PAYING FOR YOUR ENERGY.

1/ SIGN UP TO A PRICE COMPARISON SITE E.G. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cheapenergyclub ( NO CHARGE FOR THIS.)

2/ GIVE THEM YOUR ANNUAL CONSUMPTION OF GAS AND OR ELECTRICITY (YOUR ENERGY SUPPLIER GIVES YOU THIS INFO ANNUALY OR YOU CAN KEEP IT UPDATED YOURSELF BY DOING A QUICK SPREADSHEET)

3/ COMPARE THE PRICES FOR DUAL FUEL IF YOU HAVE GAS AND ELECTRICITY(MOST PEOPLE ARE ENTICED BY A DUAL FUEL DISCOUNT DO NOT BE ENTICED BEFORE CHECKING).

4/ TAKES A BIT MORE TIME (FEW MINUTES) RE-COMPARE THE PRICES OF SINGLE ENERGY SUPPLIERS USUALLY BY GOING FOR THE CHEAPEST ELECTRICITY AND CHEAPEST GAS WITHOUT DUAL FUEL DISCOUNT ************* YOU WILL OFTEN SAVE MONEY.(I HAVE NOT FOUND DUAL FUEL TO BE THE CHEAPEST FOR A LONG ,LONG TIME).

5/ GET THEM TO COMPARE ALL TARRIFS SOME PAY A FEE TO THE ENERGY COMPARISON SITE .(THEY HAVE TO SHOW YOU ALL).

6/ USUALLY THE CHEAPEST ENERGY CANNOT BE SWITCHED DIRECTLY BY THE COMPARISON SITE BUT THEY HAVE TO SHOW YOU THE CHEAPEST.

7/ GO DIRECT TO THE CHEAPEST ENERGY COMPANY SITE OR SITES{IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO SWITCH VIA THE COMPARISON SITE) FOR THE BEST DEAL FOR EACH FUEL OR BOTH.

8 /DO THE SWITCH STRAIGHT FORWARD WILL NEED YOUR METER NUMBER AND A FEW MORE DETAILS ALL ON YOUR BILL/S.JUST FOLLOW NEW SUPPLIERS INSTRUCTIONS

9/ A FEW EMAILS LATER AND A SUBMISSION OF METER READINGS (TAKE A PHOTO AND ATTACH IS BEST THEN THEY DO NOT SEND A METER READER)AND THE SWITCH WILL COMPLETE. YOU WILL NOT LOSE POWER.

10/ DO NOT WORRY IF THE ENERGY COMPANY IS SMALL OR NEW AND HAS LITTLE FEEDBACK.

11 /EVEN IF A SUPPLIER GOES BUST YOUR MONEY IS SAFE AND ANY CREDIT YOU HAVE ACCRUED IS SAFE.

12/ IF AN ENERGY SUPPLIER GOES BUST YOUR SUPPLY WILL NOT BE CUT OFF, OFGEM WILL APPOINT A NEW SUPPLIER (YOU DO NOT HAVE TO STICK WITH THEM JUST SEARCH AGAIN FOR THE BEST DEAL AND SWITCH).

13/ UPDATE THE COMPARISON SITE WITH YOUR NEW ENERGY COMPANY/COMPANIES DETAILS AND THE PRICE PLAN/S THAT YOU HAVE MOVED TO .

14/ MOST ENERGY COMPARISON SITES WILL GIVE YOU THE OPTION TO GET UPDATES WHEN YOU CAN SAVE X AMOUNT OF £ PER YEAR.SET YOUR OWN TARGET I THINK SAVING £30 AFTER ANY LEAVING PENALTY IS WORTH 5 MINUTES OF MY TIME.

15/ DO NOT BE AFRAID TO LOCK IN TO A FIXED TERM CONTRACT ,YOU DO NOT HAVE TO STICK TO IT IF YOU CAN GET CHEAPER ELSEWHERE JUST FACTOR IN THE £30/40 EXIT FEE TO YOUR SAVINGS.(THEY CANNOT CHARGE AN EXIT YOU TO SWITCH IN THE LAST 49 DAYS)

AM SURE MOST WILL BE SWITCHING REGULARLY(IF YOU HAVE NOT SWITCHED FOR MORE THAN A YEAR YOU WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY BE PAYING TOO MUCH)

HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE AND SAVES SOMEBODY SOME MONEY,MY BROTHER IN LAW HAD NOT SWITCHED FOR OVER 15 YEARS AND NOW HAS SAVED OVER A THOUSAND POUNDS PER YEAR .
THINK £15,000 WOULD HAVE BOUGHT HIM A VERY NICE SANKE.

PLEASE POST THE RESULTS IF THIS SAVES YOU CASH£££££££ AND SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND ESPESIALLY OLDER RELATIVES.

REGARDS TONY THE POOR FRUGAL PENSIONER.

Thanks Tony,

Following your comments on my ASHP thread; I switched my electricity supplier last night to Symbio and have netted an estimated £600 pa saving on a 12 months fixed tariff!!

All the best

Dave ,I will be the last man standing to have a smart meter.

Many people who currently have smart meters are having similar problems. Supposedly the latest smart meters are interchangeable with different suppliers I wonder?

I understand you can still switch your supplier with a smart meter but not all suppliers will allow it,

NO BENIFIT WHATSOEVER TO ME, once the whole country is on smart meters the energy companies/government will be able to switch the power on or off or up or down to suit demands great for them .

Lots of energy companies are telling people that they are mandatory NOT TRUE YET its simply an aspiration.

Good luck with switching you will probably find another supplier but maybe not the cheapest.

Let us know how you go on and what you save.

Hi Dave & Tony,

No - I do not have a smart meter in spite of being literally hounded by my previous supplier. I simply asked myself of what benefit to me is a smart meter over my current meter and decided there was none and concluded that if I am being offered one for free then a smart meter must therefore be of greater benefit to the government/suppliers than to the consumer and like Tony, until I have to have one by law then I won't be having one!.

I think we could be the last 2 Tony. Like you say, there were/are definitely issues with the compatibility of some meters, meaning consumers can't readily switch to other suppliers.

I know some early resistors have now conceded as their suppliers offered them good incentives, like free power on Sundays!

They are there for the benefit of the suppliers/network operators, government initiative and paid for by the consumer, hidden away in the bill! They only save you money (indirectly) if you use them to monitor and then change your energy usage. If your already a Yorkshireman and using low energy bulbs, efficient appliances and switch things off when you aren't using them, then there's no advantage.

I'm still trying to get my youngest into this mindset!

Hey,

If you have a smart meter and are refused a swap, contact the citizen advise, you cannot be refused a deal on the basis of having a smart meter, a smart meter still does manual readings if required.

Note, some providers amend your data on the national database register, so my last provider had my readings sent every 30 minutes, however when i attempted to use a comparison site it advised that i had a non standard meter and could not switch, it required me to make a phonecall and ask what the issue was and then contact my supplier to make sure my national register entry was set back to default, only your current supplier can correct national database entry not your chosen to be supplier

cheers
sarg
